Mike Mignola and Al Gordon Rocket Racoon #1 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1985). Nine years before Hellboy began his crusade against horror, Mike Mignola created this fantastic funny animal cover for the House of Ideas, a composition which is very reminiscent of Frank Frazetta's classic Conan the Destroyer painting. As detailed on Wikipedia, "The character was created by Bill Mantlo and Keith Giffen and consciously inspired by the classic Beatles song "Rocky Raccoon" which included a reference to 'Gideon's Bible' (in the comic book limited series it was a book that contained the sum of all knowledge on the 'loony colony')."
