Michael Golden Doctor Strange Portfolio Envelope Cover Original Art (SQ Publications/Marvel, 1983). A huge piece -- note the size below! Few artists have captured this character the way that Michael Golden did with this image. Brooding, powerful, and calculating, he does indeed seem to be the Master of the Mystic Arts that he is oft proclaimed to be. Having only drawn a single issue of the good Doctor's regular title, Michael Golden might have been an unexpected choice to produce a six-plate portfolio for the character, however it was remarkable and is still a fan-favorite portfolio to this day. As stunning as some of the plates were (notably Plate 3 with Clea, and Plate 5 with Eternity), it was this envelope cover image that was the stand-out favorite!Original art by Michael Golden is as highly coveted by fans as it is rare, making this huge piece from the '80s quite the find. The enormous work is produced in ink and Zipatone over graphite on board with an image area of a staggering 22" x 28". It is affixed/sealed inside a 30" x 36" period mat. There is a light crease that runs across the width of the piece 9.5" up from the bottom edge, however it is hardly noticeable. The top edge has a light sunstruck bar. Otherwise this piece is in Excellent condition.
With Benedict Cumberbatch poised to portray the Sorcerer Supreme in a Marvel movie in 2016, we expect this to disappear like magic!
