Description

Marvin Bradley and Frank Edgington Harvey Comics Library #1 "Teen-Age Dope Slaves" Cover Original Art (Harvey, 1952). Lurid drug covers such as this were quite shocking in the 1950s, and would lead to troubles for the comic book industry just a couple of years later. Of interest is the paste-up in the top left corner that indicates this cover and story were originally intended for Harvey Comics Hits #57 (the cover of which featured Rip Kirby in "The Kidnap Racket" instead). Produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13" x 20". The logo, title, and all text are paste-up. The dealer's hand has been slit from board to allow the paste-up logo to slide behind it. The twice-up format cover has been trimmed to the edges and affixed to a 21.5" x 28.25" matting board. The Bristol board is tanned, with some discoloration in the stats. This cover image was re-used as panel one of the inside story as well, most likely from a stat of the main characters on a new background. This is in Very Good condition. From the Eric Sack Collection.
