Description
Marie Severin and Frank Giacoia Sub-Mariner #14 Sub-Mariner vs. the Original Human Torch Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1969). It's a return Silver Age grudge-match of the Golden Age titans when the original Human Torch (who actually turns out to be Toro) faces off against the Sub-Mariner in this show-stopping Marie Severin Marvel masterwork. Who will win? This awesome piece is one of the most memorable covers from the run and has an image area of 10" x 15". Please note, restoration/conservation work has been done to this iconic cover. The paper has been split, making the surface area thinner than the usual Bristol stock, and a reinforcing backing paper has been added to strengthen the top image surface of the piece. Several small, thinned areas can be seen only when the piece is back-lit. There is a cut line visible through the Torch's face, flush with the bottom edge of the logo. The paper has been bleached or cleaned. Replacement logo and caption type stats have been added to the top and bottom of the piece, and Marie Severin added her signature at the lower right, after the comic was printed. Even so, this sensational cover has plenty of eye-appeal, and once it has been properly matted and framed it is sure to be a prized showpiece for any Marvel art fan.More information about Marie Severin.
