Description

Lee Elias Witches Tales #23 Cover Original Art (Harvey Comics, 1954). As the horror-comics bubble swelled to near-bursting, Harvey Comics became ever more excessive, with a grisly/goofy approach sufficient to out-do even the leading such publisher, EC Comics. Elias shredded the envelope with this study of a cross-eyed hairdresser and his cadaverous client -- complete with a lighted cigarette. The authentic art, here, contains more environmental detail than the published version; editor Leon Harvey imposed a solid-black background and removed Elias' signature. Created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10.5" x 15.75". Intact except for a missing cover blurb. Light to moderate toning. Very Good condition.
