Description

Lee Elias Tomb of Terror #12 Cover Original Art (Harvey, 1953). Elias was among the grisliest horror artists of the pre-Code period -- he adapted with the changing times to become one of DC Comics' most Code-friendly science-fiction artists. Goes without saying that this incendiary study catches Elias in a prime of ghastliness. Making the most of a minimized art space (Harvey required a dominant, near-half-page logotype), Elias tells a wordless story of threatening immediacy. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 11" x 16". The immense logo photostat shows a horizontal crease; the paste-down seams are unobtrusive. The page is tanned with spatter-staining at upper left. Overall in Very Good condition.
From the Black Cat Collection.
