Description
Lee Elias Chamber of Chills Magazine #24 Cover Original Art (Harvey, 1954). A person's deepest and darkest fears are realized on this frightening cover by Harvey mainstay, Lee Elias. A decomposed hand bursts from the muddy earth as funeral patrons react in shock and surprise. Elias was especially talented at creating disturbing images with gruesome detail as illustrated on this cover published a few months before the formation of the Comics Code Authority, which regulated "graphic" images and content in the comics industry, leading to the end to the spine-chilling series just two issues later. Ink over graphite on Bristol board mounted to 13" x 16.5" board with a stat reproduction of the logo/header and border paste-ups at an image area of 10.5" x 15". Slight toning, an original "You will be caught in the clutches of horror in... GRAVE'S END!" text paste-up at the bottom, "Magazine" text reproduction paste-up, Elias stat signature paste-up in the lower left image area, scratch effects and whiteout/abrasion corrections, with light staining; otherwise, in Very Good condition.From the Roger Hill Collection.
