DescriptionLarry Rippee Yellow Dog #2 Unpublished Cover Original Art (The Print Mind Inc., 1971). A shame that this striking composition went unused in its day -- likely because of its close resemblance to Ripp's published cover for the slightly earlier Dirty Girdie's Comix #3. Rippee was an integral, if less than prominent, talent in the Underground Comix movement, and his gift of satirical weirdness proved him capable of running in the company of such big dogs as Robert Crumb and Jay Lynch. The erratic numbering of the Yellow Dog line leads one to wonder when this piece might have been pitched to appear: Various earlier #2s had cropped up since the late 1960s, sometimes with variant cover artwork. Good to see this one intact and in agreeable shape. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Image area, 10" x 15". Moderate toning and marginal push-pin punctures. Excellent condition. From the Eric Sack Collection.
