Kim Deitch East Village Other V3#44 Waldo the Cat, Sunshine Girl, and Others Cover Original Art (East Village Other, 1968). Released on 10-4-68, this issue of the EVO featured a wonderful Kim Deitch cover advertising a scheduled "Be-In". His cat character, the mysterious Waldo, makes a cover appearance here, as does Sunshine Girl. Deitch was an influential underground comix artist in the 1960s, and continues to work well into the next century, especially for Fantagraphics Books. EVO covers are highly-prized by collectors and rarely come to market. This paper was home to many of the soon-to-be-famous underground cartoonists of the 1960-70s. This piece was featured on page 66 of Underground Classics by James Danky and Denis Kitchen (Harry N. Abrams, 2009). Produced in ink over graphite on grid lined Bristol board with an image area of 10.25" x 12.5". The board has been affixed to another board of the same type to extend the top margin for publishing needs. There is a discoloration near Waldo, with slight toning overall, and production tape residue. Overall in Very Good condition. Comes with a copy of the printed issue of the EVO. From the Eric Sack Collection.
