Kelly Freas Mad #59 Painted Cover Original Art (EC, 1960). It's the story of Yeeech-abod Crane and the Headless Horseman! The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was never this terrifying! This piece has to be seen to be truly appreciated. Although painted nearly 60 years ago, the colors are as bright and vibrant as ever. The cool blues in the lower portion remind us much of Mary Blair's Walt Disney Studios work. And the orange on Alfred E. Neuman's head almost glows in broad daylight. The ethereal hellhorse is mesmerizing also. A stunning piece as rendered edge-to-edge in mixed media on 18.5" x 23.75" pressboard. There is very slight edge and corner wear. There is also a small bit of paint just behind the horse, and also in the top right. Those are not abrasions, but paint that was put there at the time of creation. In Excellent condition.
