A brooding astronaut glares from his armored suit as a horned figure towers in shadow behind him, painted with Freas' signature mix of menace and majesty. Created for the August 1968 cover illustrating Bruce Daniels' "The Baalim Problem," the piece reflects Freas' unmatched ability to fuse psychological tension with bold, otherworldly design. Across a career of more than five decades, the artist cemented his reputation as the "Dean of Science Fiction Artists", shaping the visual imagination of an entire genre. Oil on illustration board with an image area of 8.25" x 12". Signed by Freas in the lower right of the image area. marginal abrasion and handling wear. In Excellent condition.
