DescriptionJohn Totleben - Original Cover Art for Vermillion #9 (DC, 1997). This sci-fi series, created and written by Lucius Shepard, is very well written and more than a little bizarre. Vermillion is a little SF, a little dark fantasy, and a little horror. Vermillion itself is a city in the far, far future. One inhabitant of this city is Jonathan Cave, who meets with a man named Fry and begins to tell him a story... a story of the end of the previous universe and how the new universe - which is the city of Vermillion - was created. This cover for issue #9, features Cave at a window in which stands a beautiful, mysterious woman. Penciled and inked by Swamp Thing alumni, John Totleben, this art is a study in texture and mood. The art is drawn on a 11.5" X 17.5" sheet of heavy illustration board with a 10" x 15" image area. The work has some pencil smudging across the entire surface, but it is generally bright and well-kept.
