Description

John Severin Rawhide Kid #9 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1956). Severin delivers an in-your-face close-up shot of the Rawhide Kid, rampant, in this irresistible herald for a classic early issue in the long-running Western series. Very few Marvel covers from this era have survived -- this is just the third Atlas or Marvel cover from that year we've ever auctioned. The edge-to-edge artwork is intact, though marred by extensive adhesive staining, including sections where various paste-up elements (the Comics Code seal of approval, the pre-Marvel Atlas emblem, etc.) have fallen away. The Rawhide Kid's slogan -- "He shares his saddle with danger!" -- is well represented in this ferocious composition. Ink over graphite on 13.5" x 20" Bristol board. The title logotype and two story-title blurbs are replacement photocopies, faded to a gray-tone, with slight retouching. In Good condition.
From the Professor Comic Collection.
