John Severin POW! Magazine #1 Cover Original Art (Humor-Vision, 1966). This fantastic large-scale acrylic gem features TV stars and rock 'n' roll figures of the midcentury -- the ratings wars, literalized, as a free-for-all slugfest, compellingly rendered by Severin's mastery of caricature. Colors are bright and vibrant, although the illustration board shows edge-and-corner wear. The image area measures 18" x 18" and features a staggering 33 celebrity figures. The pairings of antagonists are funny and logical, especially the spectacle of Lawrence Welk vs. Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. The Tareyton Cigarettes Man in the middle is a brilliant cameo: He would "rather fight than switch." The word "Cracked" at the top suggests that the composition may have been originally intended for that title from the related Major Publications. Overall in Excellent condition.
