DescriptionJohn Severin Cracked #99 Cover Original Art (Major Publications, 1972). The crack-pots at Cracked take another crack at MAD. The silhouette of someone who looks suspiciously like Alfred E. Neuman is walking away after giving Sylvester P. Smythe some lumps in the "Special Non-Violence Issue". MAD was the dominant force in this market of bad jokes, and Cracked Mazagine (sic, not Sick) wanted to be associated with them by any means. The Usual Gang of Idiots never took the bait or responded in kind. This cover also features some strikingly lovely flowers in the border. Each is hand-drawn and colored by John Severin. Incredible work and meticulous attention to detail. The center slot was cut out for production reasons unknown. Produced in mixed media on 17" x 22.5" illustration board. Light tanning, some glue residue from missing text paste-ups, a couple of very minor creases, and that hole in the middle. Otherwise in Very Good condition. From the Cracked Vault Collection.
