Description

John Romita Sr. Webspinners: Tales of Spider-Man #1C Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy "The Kiss" Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1999). Some say the death of Gwen Stacy marked the end of the Silver Age of comics. "This was the end of innocence for comics -- it remains one of the most potent stories ever published," was Arnold Blumberg's comment in Comic Book Marketplace. It's a tragic story that fans still talk about, and the most sense-shattering deathblow in comics. After years of drawing attractive romance comics for Robert Kanigher at DC, John Romita perfected the art of love comics. This tender, alternate cover scene was based on this issue's yarn, "The Kiss." Peter Parker looks back through his photo scrapbook, and relives the special moment when he shared his first kiss with Gwen -- and laments what might have been. The image area of this gorgeous "good girl" Marvel masterwork, showcasing John Romita Sr. still at the height of his talent, measures 10" x 15". The art is in Excellent condition. John Romita signed the page at the lower right. Also included with this lot are unattached Silver-Age-style title logo/masthead photostats, in case you'd like to put them on to get that 1960s feel. This gem is not just another classic ASM cover -- it's a loving memorial for Gwen Stacy and a fantastic call back to Silver Age Marvel.
