Description

John Romita Sr. Sub-Mariner #67 Cover Original Art (Marvel Comics, 1973). It's the first appearance of Subby's new costume which came courtesy of his sometime adversaries the Fantastic Four (aided by Inhumans member, Triton). Romita's new design helped drive the new story direction of Namor vs. The World after the Atlantean Prince blames humanity for his exposure to deadly nerve gas which made it impossible for his body to obtain moisture from the ocean which had enabled his breathing on land.

Created in ink over blue pencil on World Color Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". The logo, corner box, issue number, text above FF faces, and Namor's declaration of war are stat paste-ups. The other two text bubbles are original paste-ups, which are being held down with discolored tape. The main Namor image, along with the wave around him, and Triton are rendered on a separate Bristol board and affixed to the World Color Bristol board. The city of Atlantis and its dying people were drawn on the World Color Bristol board. There is adhesive residue from a missing paste-up in the lower left of the image area, whiteout marks, and handling wear. Comes with a copy of the printed comic. In Very Good condition.
