    Description

John Romita Sr. Amazing Spider-Man #61 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1968). The first cover appearance for Gwen Stacy as well as her father Captain George Stacy! A sad foreboding of things to come for this family, it was the cover for the story "What a Tangled Web We Weave...!" This tangled web was spun by Stan Lee. John Romita Sr. had taken over art chores on the title just two years previously, but his impact was immediate and powerful. During his run, Peter Parker would transform from a nerdy science-geek to a fairly normal college kid with everyday problems. Also during that time, Spider-Man would transform into Marvel's corporate mascot. This split-second rescue cover was created at an impressive twice-up scale in ink over blue pencil on Bristol board with an image area of 12.25" x 18". Spider-Man's head in the main image area is an original art paste-up, as are the upper portions of the ropes. The corner box, logo, and cover text are all stat paste-ups. The toned board has production oil stains on the reverse side, but not on the front. Corner crease at upper left. Pinholes. The art has been professionally conserved. Signed by Romita Sr. in the lower right margin. Very Good condition.
