Description

John Buscema and Vince Colletta Avengers #44 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1967). Twice-up Marvel cover art from this era is very hard to come by, and this spectacular Silver Age slugfest is a bona fide show-stopper. The all-star line-up for this Big John Buscema blockbuster includes Hercules, Hawkeye, Captain America, Quicksilver, Goliath, the Wasp, the Scarlet Witch, and the Black Widow, pitted against the Red Guardian and two dozen shock troops from behind the Bamboo Curtain. There are several areas in the design where partial photostats were made to alter the sizes and positions of figures for the final printed cover, and portions of the original drawing were also whited-out. Most of that production work was done in the upper portion near the title logo. A stat of a repositioned Quicksilver at the lower left has fallen off the page leaving behind a glue stain over the slightly larger, original drawing of the figure, otherwise, the art is in Very Good condition.
