John Buscema and Frank Giacoia Sub-Mariner #3 Cover Original Art and Production Cover Group of 2 (Marvel, 1968). This group is a double-bonus! You get both the actual Buscema art used to produce the cover, and you get the production art of the finished cover as well. Confused? The original cover art had been completed before someone decided to "flip" the image. So a reversed stat copy of the original art was made, altered, and made camera-ready for use. The production cover has no original art -- it's all paste-up. There is glue residue and considerable tanning in the various paste-up layers. It is top and bottom production hole punched. The original art cover is produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board and has been professionally restored. The art, previously trimmed to the cover border, has also been whitened. The corner box/logo are also recreations. Both covers have an image area of 10" x 15", the original cover restored to Excellent condition, and the production cover in Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
