Description
Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti "White Hating Coon #1" Chasing Amy Screen-Used Mock Cover Original Art (Miramax Pictures/View Askew Prod., 1997). A truly unique piece of comic art that appeared in Kevin Smith's romantic comedy Chasing Amy! Highlighting characters set in the comics/art world, the movie focuses on the complicated relationships of comic book creators. Many of the scenes take place at comic conventions, and at one such event, the book "White Hating Coon #1" was promoted during a comic panel discussion by creator Hooper X (as played by Dwight Ewell). His controversial book featured this satirical homage to the first appearance of Superman by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, from the cover of Action Comics #1 (DC, 1938), re-created for the screen by actual comic artists Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti. For extra impact, this cover image was displayed behind Hooper X during the panel, giving viewers a great look at the over-the-top artwork.As a special bonus, the art was initially signed by the art team of Quesada and Palmiotti, as well as the actor Jay Mewes (Jay) and director/writer/actor Kevin Smith (Silent Bob). Later, the art was signed by actors Joey Lauren Adams (Alyssa Jones) and Jason Lee (Banky Edwards).
Ink over graphite on Marvel cover stock Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15.25". Slight toning with a shadow along the left side into the image area, and a light vertical crease down the left side, with light handling wear. Signed by the art team in the top margin, Mewes and Smith in the bottom margin, and Adams and Lee (with character names) in the upper image area. In Very Good condition.
