Description

Jesse Marsh Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter of Mars #1 Cover Original Art (Gold Key, 1964). The first Jesse Marsh cover we have auctioned in our history! This issue adapted the first John Carter story "A Princess of Mars." While the insides were a reprint of a 1950s Four Color, Marsh provided a new cover here. It was surely one of his last covers, as he retired in 1965 and passed away in 1966. John Carter and Dejah Thoris fight off a Thark, attacked from the back of a Thoat. Created in ink and red ink keylines over graphite on Bristol board with a matted image area of 11" x 15". Glass-front framed to 16.25" x 20.5". The toned board is in Very Good condition.
