Jerry Ordway - Original Cover Painting for Power of Shazam! #6 (DC, 1995). The essential conflicts of the second World War are perfectly encapsulated in this beautiful cover painting by Jerry Ordway, as Captain Marvel dukes it out with the evil Captain Nazi, in a battle of wills that will shake the free world to its core. Ordway's run on the Power of Shazam series was marked by a continuous run of fully-painted covers that never failed to elicit raves from the readership, and this spectacular example is surely one of the four or five best images from the run (no mean feat, when you consider that Ord did over 45 covers in the course of the series). Rendered in water-based gauche, the colors are incredibly vibrant, and almost seem to glow with life; the final printed image (either on the original comic, or as presented here) cannot begin to do justice to the lush hues of the original art. Those who know Ordway's work know that he rarely sells his original art, and this may be the first Power of Shazam! cover to be offered in a public auction. Do not ignore this unique opportunity. The page measures 12" x 16.5", with an image area of 10.25" x 16.5", and is signed by Ordway in the lower right corner.
