DescriptionJay Lynch Douglas Comix #nn Back Cover and Color Plates Original Art Group of 4 (Douglas Records, 1972). Underground Comix pacesetter Lynch delivers a promotional piece for jazz-and-poetry producer/publisher Alan Douglas. The piece pertains to the connections between cartooning and the Beat movements in poetry, art, and jazz. Three accompanying pencil drawings were designed as color-printing plates. A fifth piece is the finished, printed version. Explains Lynch: "...I was ...handling the color as was done on the lower-budget pulp mags of the 1930s and '40s, where 4 grey wash paintings were put together to give the appearance of a full color painting on the printed cover." Background notes from the artist also included. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with painted white highlights. The image area measures 9.25" x 12", with faint toning. In Excellent condition. From the Eric Sack Collection.
