Jay Lynch Bogeyman #2 Cover Original Art (San Francisco Comic Book Co., 1969). Gary Arlington, who ran the San Francisco Comic Book Company store on 23rd Street in the Mission District, was a huge fan of EC Horror comics. Store employee Rory Hayes was a cartoonist himself, and he edited this three-issue title which Gary published. Pronounced "boogeyman" (as in "the Boogeyman will get you if you don't watch out!"), this strange little comic was one of several attempts by Gary to revive the spirit of comics like Tales From the Crypt. For this second issue cover, Jay Lynch (Bijou Funnies, "Nard and Pat") actually included an old witch similar to Crypt's original horror-host. The art is in ink, whiteout, and Zipatone shading film on paper and illustration board, for an overall image size of 8.25" x 11". The main part of the image was done on paper, which was then affixed to board and expanded; the paper area has tanned with glue stains. Good condition. Be sure to check out the reverse side, which contains a number of inked doodles by Lynch, including one featuring R. Crumb's Mr. Natural character. From the Eric Sack Collection.
