DescriptionJames Jean Fables #16 Cover Painting Original Art (DC/Vertigo, 2003). Bill Willingham's incredible take on the fairytales of old was perfectly matched by the incomparable talent of James Jean on the covers. Jean won the Eisner Award for Best Cover Artist for Fables every year he was nominated... six straight years of wins from 2004 through 2009. James Jean now has a thriving career in Fine Art.
Gothic fairytales have made quite a comeback in books, TV, and movies since 2002, and Fables is a big reason why. Here we get an image of Bluebeard preparing for the "Duel" in "Storybook Love: Part Three". The visual image of Bluebeard was based on Bill Willingham's longtime friend... super-fan, Brad Thomte. At the bottom of the image, Goldilocks is ripping it up cross-country style in an effort to catch Bigby Wolf and Snow White. Produced in oil over ink, graphite, and blue pencil on 16" x 22.5" Bristol board. The logo and Goldilocks sections were in color on the final printed cover. The image area of the cover measures 14" x 21". In Excellent condition.
