Description

Jackson "Butch" Guice Marvel Age #5 Dr. Strange Inside Back Cover Ad Illustration Original Art (Marvel, 1983). Your eyes aren't deceiving you, that really is Baron Mordo wearing the mantle of the Master of the Mystic Arts. This Guice illustration promoted What If? #40, the issue that dared to ask "What if Dr. Strange had Never Become Master of the Mystic Arts?". It marked Guice's first time drawing Marvel's chief mystic before he took over as the regular penciler on Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme in 1989. By the way, we wonder if this image was perhaps drawn as a proposed cover for that What If? issue, based on the markings in the margin and the fact that this art has space for a UPC box. Ink, marker, and white paint over graphite on Marvel Bristol board with an image area of 9.75" x 15". The art was hand-colored some time after publication. The page presents light toning, marginal staple holes, smudging, light marginal staining, marginal production tape, stat text paste-ups, and minor corner/handling wear. Signed by Guice in the lower margin. In Very Good condition.
