DescriptionJack Kirby - Speed Comics #23 Cover Original Art (Harvey, 1942). This World War II era Jack Kirby cover shows Harvey's response to the other star-spangled superheroes bursting onto the scene, flag-wavers such as Captain America, the Shield, and Captain Flag. Patriotic fervor was all the newsstand rage, and Kirby was a master of this genre. This is as fine a Golden Age cover example as is likely to be offered. Work of this caliber and era does not come to market often. The logo, "film strip" hero portraits, and caption box are photocopied replacements; otherwise, this piece is in Very Good condition. There are moderate white-out touch-ups on the cover that do little to detract from the impact of the image. The image size is 10.5" x 14.25", and this cover has been matted to a size of 16" x 19.5".
