DescriptionJack Kirby Boy Commandos #24 Superman Parody Cover Original Art and Signed Board (DC, 1947). The very first Superman satire cover is an immensely fun and iconic cover that was also featured in the color section of Dick Lupoff's All In Color For A Dime. "Up, Up and Away" (the catch phrase for Superman from the Radio show) was the title of the last story in this issue. It featured Brooklyn capturing a gang of crooks while dressed for a costume party -- a comic book plot that would be repeated in comics, TV shows, and movies for decades to come. This classic page is ink over graphite on illustration board with an image area of approximately 13" x 18.5". Very tanned, and the board has been bent and cracked in the bottom left corner. This has only caused a slight wrinkle on the front side, however. Overall in Good condition. But wait, there's more. At some point, a very young Ron Goulart (now a well-known and respected comics historian) wrote to DC asking Simon & Kirby if they would send him some art. This cover is what he got, along with a note on Bristol board signed "Jack Kirby/Joe Simon" by Jack Kirby.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.View More Testimonials
