Description

Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott - Fantastic Four #100 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1970). For the centennial issue of the "World's Greatest Comic Magazine," Jack Kirby pulled out all the stops and uncorked a super-rumble featuring many of the villains that he'd created for the Fantastic Four. Dr. Doom, the Frightful Four (minus Madame Medusa), Puppet Master, Red Ghost and his Super Apes, Dragon Man, Mad Thinker, Hulk, and the Sub-Mariner -- it was the most savage scrap this side of Yancey Street! The Fantastic Four and Crystal had their dance cards full in this deadly donnybrook and this action-packed cover scene was the perfect capper to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's legendary 100-issue run on the premiere title of the Silver Age. Joltin' Joe Sinnott added the perfect Bronze Age finish to this magnificent Marvel milestone. Sinnott's super-smooth, polished inking style has influenced countless comic book artists. During his fifty-plus year career as a Marvel mainstay, Sinnott has been lauded for his sterling work on The Avengers, Silver Surfer, The Mighty Thor, and other titles, but it was with Jack Kirby on the Fantastic Four that this art team-supreme made its most lasting mark. This senses-shattering spectacular has an approximate image area of 10" x 15". When this landmark cover was returned from Marvel to Jack Kirby, the piece had been damaged near its horizontal centerline. The art has since been professionally restored to Excellent condition and it's worth noting that this piece was proudly displayed in the Kirby household for many years.
