Jack Kirby and Frank Giacoia 2001: A Space Odyssey #9 Cover Machine Man Original Art (Marvel, 1977). Cover billed as "Mister Machine", but no matter if you call him "Aaron Stack", or "X-51", he's still Machine Man to us... and this was only his second appearance! This fantastic series was inspired by Stanley Kubrick's feature film of the same name. Much in the same way that Planet of the Apes inspired Kirby to create Kamandi, this series allowed him to run far afield from Kubrick's original story. The long-standing result was the creation of Machine Man. This cover was rendered by "The King" in graphite and inked by Frank Giacoia on Bristol board with an image area of 9.75" x 15". The logo, corner box, and header info are all stat paste-ups. The lower cover caption box paste-up is missing, leaving glue residue and the original Kirby handwritten text. Signed by Kirby in the UPC box. The toned board has some handling wear, and minor production oil stains in the margins. In Very Good condition.
