Jack Kirby and Bill Everett Thor #176 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1970)....
Description
Jack Kirby and Bill Everett Thor #176 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1970). Freed from Odin's spell, the fire giant Surtur storms Asgard itself, an apocalyptic inferno answered by the one god powerful and stubborn enough to stand in his way. This cover delivers Marvel grandeur in every inch: Kirby "Krackle" energy, Thor locked into his classic stance as he leans back and whirls Mjolnir, and a sweeping edge-to-edge composition bursting with Jack "The King" Kirby's mythic imagination, finely inked by fellow legend Bill Everett. Thor's hammer-spinning pose calls to mind some of Kirby's most iconic covers, from the hero's debut in Journey into Mystery #83 to his thunderous clash with Loki in Issue #88. Opportunities to own a cover of this scale and pedigree are rare. This is pure Marvel royalty depicting the kind of epic, god-shaking confrontation that defined an era and still sets the standard for superhero spectacle. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Stat logo/trade dressing and CCA stamp at the top, with inked art for the crackling effects above and between the letters. Light toning, production oil and adhesive residue staining, whiteout corrections, smudging, cover title "Inferno" is a paste-up, stat cover blurb paste-up, marginal staple holes and abrasions, and handling wear. Signed by Kirby in the lower right and in Very Good condition.More information about Jack Kirby. See also: Kirby, Jack, Jacob Kurtzberg, Kurtzberg, Jacob Artist. Lookup the Comic Book in our Guide
