DescriptionJack Davis Growing Up With Monsters: My Times at Universal Studios, in Rhymes! Wrap-Around Cover Painting Original Art (BearManor Media, 2009). Carla Laemmle (1909-2014) was the niece of Universal Pictures Studio founder Carl Laemmle, she essentially grew up on the backlot and even appeared in many classic horror films, including having the first spoken line in 1931's Dracula. Being an EC Comics alumni, Jack Davis was the perfect choice to illustrate her story. This mixed media painted piece features Laemmle and co-author Daniel Kinske on the back and the Phantom of the Opera on the front cover. The Jack Davis Frankenstein's Monster on the back cover is fantastic also... reminds us of his seminal work on MAD Magazine. This is in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 18" x 12". It is signed by both Jack Davis and Carla Laemmle. In Excellent condition.
