DescriptionJack Davis and Harvey Kurtzman - Original Cover Art for Wildest Westerns #1 (Warren, 1961). From one of Warren Publishing Company's earliest ventures, Wildest Westerns #1, comes this brilliant, full-color cover painting by Jack Davis, with layouts by Harvey Kurtzman; this was one of the very few Warren magazines edited by Mad's Kurtzman, who usually did the layouts for his artists. This fluorescent cover art is gorgeously painted in vivid watercolors and pen and ink on a sheet of 18" x 22.5" textured illustration board. The image shows a U. S. Bank deliverer being chased by Lee Marvin, in a modern police patrol car with "M Squad" on the hood. "M Squad" was a television program starring Marvin, which was on air during the time that this magazine premiered. Many consider this program, which aired for four seasons, one of the most memorable cop shows in history. Looking closely at this work, you'll be hard pressed to imagine that it is over forty years old. There is very little sign of aging apparent. Includes a color photo-copy of the original printed cover by Warren.
