Henry C. Kiefer Classics Illustrated #63 The Man without a Country Cover Original Art (Gilberton, 1949). Kiefer's dynamic war-at-sea composition heralds one of the finer examples of Classics Illustrated as an interpretive literary publication. The Man without a Country is the tale of a historic exile, doomed to spend his life sailing the ocean. Kiefer drew more details than could be published, including a penciled but un-inked crewman's face just outside the right-hand crop-mark. Brilliant. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. The image area measures 13.75" x 21", framed to 18" x 24". Pronounced age-toning and marginal adhesive staining. Signed in the image area. In Very Good condition. From the Falvey Classics Illustrated Collection.
