DescriptionHank Hartman The Lone Ranger's Companion Tonto #4 Cover Original Art (Dell, 1952). The career of Hartman (known as both Hank and Henry) spanned six decades and many artistic idioms, including portraiture and landscapes. His cover art was as likely to grace a Lone Ranger funnybook or its spinoff, Tonto, as to appear on such mass-appeal slicks as The Saturday Evening Post and Redbook. The long-term Lone Ranger/Tonto affiliation indulged Hartman's fondness for the Western frontier, and this stellar example captures both character and setting with cultural accuracy and a welcome sense of adventure. The framing here includes the published issue (intact, and very well preserved), alongside the authentic painting. Opaque watercolors on Illustration board, with crayon background shading added after publication. The image area is 12" x 16", framed to 30" x 24.5". In Excellent condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.View More Testimonials
