Gus Ricca Punch Comics #10 Cover Original Art (Chesler, 1944). A dynamic, symbolic cover depicts a large gathering, crooks and innocents alike, caught in the terrible beam of "the powerful photo-electric eye." More closely aligned with the pulp magazines' illustrative style than with the customary comic-book style, this cover radiates with a sophisticated power unusual for the period and the genre. It looks better in its natural state than it did when first published, with delicate brush-stroke patterns and painted white highlights that stand out vividly against the age-toning of the stock. Ink over graphite on heavy Illustration board, with painted white highlights. Image area, 11" x 15.5". Some edge wear and marginal staining. Excellent condition.
