Description

Greg Land and Jay Leisten Wolverine #55 - Crime SuspenStories #22 Variant Cover Homage Original Art (Marvel, 2007). A macabre mutant twist on one of the most famous pre-Code horror covers of all time! Wolverine pays homage to Johnny Craig's classic Crime SuspenStories #22 cover -- holding up Sabretooth's decapitated head, the villain's lifeless body in the background, with his adamantium claws taking the place of the bloody axe in a scene so controversial it was cited during the US Senate's 1950s investigation into juvenile delinquency. While many variant covers bear little relation to a story's contents, this one is fully apropos, as Wolverine receives the Muramasa Blade -- capable of negating healing factors -- and uses it to behead his longstanding nemesis, bringing a decisive end to their long-running feud (at least, until the inevitable retcon). Rendered in ink over graphite on Bristol board with a 10" x 15.25" image area. All text is stat paste-up, with marginal notes and light handling wear. Signed and in Excellent condition.
