Gilbert Shelton Wonder Wart-Hog the Hog of Steel Magazine #1 Cover Original Art (Millar Publishing, 1967). Wonder Wart-Hog, Gilbert Shelton's savagely funny send-up of superhero comics, got his start in the pages of Bacchanal and The Texas Ranger, two college magazines, before graduating on to Pete Millar's Drag Cartoons, a popular Hot Rod humor mag, in the early 1960s. Shelton, with the help of school buddies Tony Bell and Joe E. Brown Jr., produced two issues of a Wonder Wart-Hog magazine in 1968, which reprinted many of the Drag stories. This is the original painted artwork for the cover of the first issue, with the black background type art added as an overlay to the art. The word balloons are also recreations. An original overlay with Shelton's hand-lettered masthead is included. Each color piece of art is attached to the original illustration board used during publication, and the combined total image size is approximately 10.5" x 14.25". In Excellent condition.
