Gil Kane Kid Colt Outlaw #194 Cover Original Art (Marvel Comics, 1975). Kane's brilliance as a Western artist has been obscured by his larger identification with the superheroic genre. This frontier thriller is among his finest, the title character confronted with a bloodthirsty wolf pack. The original ink drawing was accomplished on a pre-printed sheet of Marvel's house-brand cover stock, with borders and color-key guides framing the hand-laid artwork. The line-art contains more detail than can be seen in the published version, where the superimposed colors hide a great deal of extravagant crosshatching and pen-point feathering. Signed in the lower margin. The logotype is a photostat (containing Jack Kirby's trademarked cameo image of Kid Colt), pasted in place. Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with painted white highlights. The image area is 10" x 15". Moderate toning and scattered adhesive staining. Very Good condition.
