Description

Gil Kane and Frank Giacoia Amazing Spider-Man #98 Cover Original Art (Marvel, 1971). The Green Goblin was shown on just ten covers in the first 100 issues of this series, and this one from the famous anti-drug trilogy is surely one of the most memorable. Of note, about this cover, is what is not on the printed version, but is on this original... a Comics Code Authority seal of approval! Although Stan Lee was asked by the Department of Health, Education and Welfare to write a story specifically about drug-abuse, when submitted, the CCA refused to approve it. So Marvel published the book without the seal on it, most likely removing it from the shot film of the cover image. This was also only Gil Kane's third issue, having just taken over from living legend John Romita, Sr. The perspective and detail on this cover is incredible. Produced in ink over graphite on Bristol board, trimmed and affixed to a Sparta World Color Bristol board, with an image area of 10" x 15", it is tanned, with glue residue on the cover and paste-up logo. All text and the corner box are paste-up. There are some production oil stains and corner wear. Overall in Very Good condition and a key piece of comic book history.
