Description

George Evans Crime SuspenStories #24 Cover Original Art (EC, 1954). Horror covers such as this are what helped make pre-Code EC Comics both famous and infamous! George Evans' covers were particularly intense, and as such, they rarely come up for sale. This is one of his best! It was for the lead story "Double-Crossed" from this issue. The crazed look in David Volney's eyes is over the top, but the way he is looking at that hatchet really sells it! The limp, lurid, languid body in the sink with its slack jaw and bulging eyes is disturbing for sure. Rendered twice-up scale in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13.5" x 19.75". Signed on the sink with white paint. The entire masthead and the caption box are both stat paste-ups. The toned board is in Very Good condition.
