Description

George Evans Aces High #3 Cover Preliminary Painting Original Art (EC, 1955). Evans captured the drama and wonder of the air battles of World War I in his work on the short-lived series Aces High. This "color guide sketch" preliminary, created for the third cover of the series, shows the action in the clouds, thousands of feet above the ground from an angle that is not for the faint of heart. Beautifully rendered in mixed media on Bristol board with an image area of 11.75" x 14.75". Slight toning, pinholes and white paint in the margins, notes in the bottom margin, rippling along the top, tape/residue along the back edges, with staining and surface/edge wear. Signed by Evans in the bottom margin and in Very Good condition. Includes two in-progress photos and a correspondence letter from Evans.
From the Roger Hill Collection.
