    Description

Gene Colan and Frank Giacoia Tales of Suspense #95 Cover Iron Man Original Art (Marvel, 1967). Marvel's Man of Iron wonders what to do "If A Man Be Stone!" when he faces the Grey Gargoyle. Paul Pierre Duval was one of Marvel's most fascinating villains and he had first battled Thor in Journey Into Mystery #107 just a few years before this. This impressive cover was crafted in ink over graphite with some whiteout art corrections on Bristol board. It was then trimmed from the original Bristol board and affixed to this Curtiss Way twice-up cover stock board with an image area of 13.25" x 20.25". After that, the decision was made to move the image up on the board, so a stat was made and pasted over the original art. At that time, Iron Man's left arm was moved to a more upraised position, and there were other minor modifications on the published cover. But this is the original art used to create that cover! Since then, the stat overlay has been removed. This has left glue residue over most of the image area and in the margins, and has caused abrasions in several places. Someone has filled in these abrasions to re-create the missing original linework, and used whiteout on other places to re-create the original look. There are four rips in the side margins that are repaired with tape on the reverse side, as are some of the original production-caused slits in the board from trimming the stats and art. The bottom left marginal corner is missing, and there is a staple hole in the top left margin with a minor crease. The original "If A Man Be" stat is missing (above the original "Stone!" stat). The logo, corner box, and lower caption are modern-day recreation stats affixed directly to the art board. With overall toning, this piece is in Good condition. Comes with a copy of the printed comic book in VG condition.
