DescriptionFred Ray The Story of Fort McHenry and the Star Spangled Banner Cover Book Illustration Original Art (Ray, 1959). "And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there; O! say does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave, O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave?" Along with his work in comics, Fred Ray also wrote, illustrated, and published historical booklets on Forts McHenry, Ticonderoga, Niagara, the Alamo, and others. This piece has an image area of 20" x 12.5". The type at the bottom of the page (at the lower right) that read, "and the Star-Spangled Banner" is missing, and the caption box with the words to the Star-Spangled Banner is a replacement photocopy; otherwise, the art is in Very Good condition. A mylar overlay used for a printed color effect and page 13, which is a photostat of the cover image of the flag (with a new caption box), are included in this lot.
