Fred Guardineer - Original Cover Art for Action Comics #16 (DC, 1939). This thrilling cover from 1939, just a few issues into the Superman phenomenon, is the second to the last non-Man of Steel cover in one of the industry's longest-running comic book series. Fred Guardineer, a 20 year veteran of comics, delineated the covers of many early DC books, including this cover from Action Comics #16. With his clean and uncluttered approach, Guardineer brings zest to this soldier-of-fortune adventure piece. This beautifully-maintained comic art treasure measures 13" x 17" and is matted with white board. The art is in pristine condition, with an overall yellowing which doesn't detract from the work. The Action logo paste-up is a photocopy and not the original. A great piece from one of the key titles in comic history.
