DescriptionFrank Thorne Wizards and Warrior Women Portfolio Cover Original Art (Schanes and Schanes, 1978). Thorne made a sizable career for himself appearing at comic conventions in full wizard regalia, sometimes with Wendy Pini accompanying him dressed as Red Sonia. Of course his real career was drawing comics, including the flame-haired "She-Devil with a Sword" and other buxom barbarian gals (not to mention countless other comics and newspaper strips). Here's his hand-drawn cover art for a six-plate portfolio. And other than the photo insert and the presstype "A Portfolio of Fantasy Drawings," it's all hand-drawn, even the Cesar Jerez photo credit along the right side. The two women on either side of the photo are in ink and gray wash over graphite on Bristol board; the photo is from an original glassy print, and Zipatone shading film was used on part of the large display lettering (which was done on a separate board and pasted on). The overall image area is approximately 10" x 14". Other than minor board tanning and the tip of Frank's hat lifting slightly off the board, the art is in Excellent condition.
