Description

Frank Thorne - Red Sonja Original Art (1978). This original art was created by Frank Thorne in ink and watercolor in two stages. The original inkwork was produced in 1976, and was used on the sleeve for the 45rpm The Ballad of Red Sonja. This printed sleeve used the main section of this artwork (without the green demon on the right). Then, in 1978, Thorne hand-colored this work for publication on the back cover of Fem Fantastique magazine #3 published by Bill Black's Paragon Publications. It was possibly created from a print of the original linework (as indicated by the "pinholes" in the top corners), but it does have original ink and watercolor on it. Other iterations of this art have appeared as late as the year 2000, which indicates Thorne reproduced those works from the original linework in someway. This one is ink and watercolor on 11" x 14.75" Bristol board. This has been affixed to an illustration board. In Excellent condition.
From the Personal Collection of Frank Thorne.
