Frank Hampson Studio Eagle V3#36 Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future Cover Original Art (Hulton Press, 1952). One of the most popular English weekly comic sections was the Eagle, originally launched in 1950 to great success. The opening strip, Dan Dare, was a much more mature hero than previously existed in UK comics, and his adventures were popular with readers young and old. Here's the magnificent page one from the December 12th, 1952 issue, drawn in ink and watercolor on board, with an approximate image area of 14.25" x 17.5". We've often heard Hampson cited as an influence, by the British-born John Byrne in particular. A color photocopy of the paper's masthead has been matted over the art, for an overall size of 15.25" x 19.75". The art was originally prepared in two sections, which were at one time taped together; the tape has been removed, but an old stain has been left. Otherwise, the art is in Excellent condition.
