Description

Ernie Chan and John Calnan World's Finest Comics #239 Cover Original Art (DC Comics, 1976). A fascinating combination of original art and reconstructive collage-work, here: Chan and Calnan had made the upper figures of Superman and Gold (the Metal Men robot) too tall to accommodate an overload of boilerplate text. In order to make room for a "Bicentennial" banner, a date-and-number strip, and the World's Finest logotype, the production department inserted a retouched photostat, reduced the height by 1.5", and jigsawed the reduced background onto the foreground figure of Batman. The fully original art remains beneath, intact but glue-stained. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with collage elements. Image area, 10" x 15". Paste-up seams and staining. Very Good condition. Note: Batman is original art, Superman and Gold are stats.
